Welcome
The original Abbey Light Railway was a small 2′ gauge railway near Kirkstall Abbey in Leeds, UK. It was owned by Peter Lowe, a retired lecturer at Kitson College in the city and supported by volunteers, including my father and I. The railway existed to house Peter’s collection of ex-industrial and military rolling stock, which included 11 internal combustion locos and one battery-electric. When he passed away in 2012 the collection was sold and is now dispersed at good homes around the country. The railway itself was lifted in 2013 and the site has returned to nature.

The ALR lives on in model form, as over several years I have built a version of almost the whole railway in O-14 (14mm gauge in ‘O’ scale of 1:43.5). More information can be found on the page About The Layout.
